The commbox comprises over 30,000 online and print publications on media and communication in the Global South, ranging from the beginnings of international media assistance to the present day.

The database addresses media practitioners and scholars in media development, including Special Collections developed and maintained by research institutions like the University of Sheffield, the University of Leipzig, WACC, and (in preparation) the Latin American Centre for Advanced Communication Studies CIESPAL (Ecuador), the Catholic University in La Paz (Bolivia) and Quilmes University (Argentina).
